KOTA KINABALU (Dec 9): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah is of the view that the remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Kitingan during the launch of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Youth movement were highly insensitive to the stability and peace of the nation, particularly in Sabah.
PKR Sabah secretary Sazalye Donal said that they understand and respect the demands for rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“However, such demands should be pursued prudently and in the spirit of unity, in line with the formation of the unity government as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he pointed out.
Sazalye said labeling political parties based in Peninsular Malaysia as “colonizers” and their leaders as “traitors” is excessive and incendiary.
The existence of parties based in Peninsular Malaysia does not violate the Malaysian Constitution, and their leaders are certainly not “traitors,” as alleged, he said, adding that such irresponsible labeling and baseless accusations can be considered inflammatory.
“PKR Sabah would like to ask, apart from his seasonal rhetoric, especially during election periods, what tangible achievements has he accomplished in championing MA63? None.
“All the rights that have been restored thus far were initiatives and decisions made by PMX himself, even before being formally demanded by any party under the Madani government.
“We challenge him to immediately withdraw from the unity government coalition if he can no longer cooperate with the parties within the coalition,” Sazalye said in a statement today.
Jeffrey, who is GRS deputy chairman, had accused certain parties of attacking and dividing the GRS state government.
“Fear not, these are just games by parties from across the sea. We will defend our Chief Minister because our work is not yet done. We will bring them to the political battlefield here in Sabah to give ourselves a chance.
“Enough is enough. We have been colonized for far too long. Sabah is our land. Sabah is our home. Do not disturb our home. Do not mess with us this time. This time, the people of Sabah understand. The people of Sabah are tired of them,” he said when officiating the launching of GRS Youth on Sunday.
