KUCHING (Jan 6): The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) updated its forecast of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds in several areas of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia until 7pm today.
The warning was issued by the department at 4pm today.
In Sarawak, these weather conditions are expected in Sri Aman, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang.
In Sabah, similar weather conditions will occur in Sipitang, Tambunan, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Tawau and Kunak.
In Peninsular Malaysia, similar conditions are anticipated in the states of Perak; Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu and Dungun); Pahang (Bentong, Maran, Bera and Rompin); Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat); Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur; Negeri Sembilan (Jempol); Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Kota Tinggi).
“The warning is issued when signs indicate that thunderstorms, with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 mm/h, are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour. A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert, valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance,” stated the department.
