KOTA KINABALU (Feb 1): The concept of efficiency and speed must always be instilled and practiced by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) in the implementation of all its policies, programmes and services.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said that following its elevation to city status, DBKK carries greater responsibilities in maintaining the highest level of service delivery.
He said that the expectations of Kota Kinabalu residents are becoming increasingly challenging, requiring faster and more efficient services, especially in the present time.
“Therefore, I urge that the concept of efficiency and speed be continuously applied and practiced in the implementation of all planned policies, programmes and services to ensure the well-being of the people in Kota Kinabalu City remains intact,” he said during the DBKK Appreciation Ceremony in conjunction with the Kota Kinabalu City 25th Silver Jubilee at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Saturday.
Hajiji said that as a progressive local authority (PBT), DBKK has implemented various initiatives to enhance administrative efficiency, promote innovation, and strengthen service delivery to the people.
“These initiatives not only improve the quality of life for the people but also reinforce Kota Kinabalu’s position as a sustainable and people-friendly city.”
“I hope all these efforts will continue to be enhanced to ensure that Kota Kinabalu remains a city that meets the needs of visitors, especially its residents,” he said.
Hajiji added that in an era of globalisation and increasingly complex urban development challenges, Kota Kinabalu must be well-prepared with meticulous planning to ensure its infrastructure can accommodate rapid population growth.
“It should be noted that this city is also a major tourist destination and a popular gateway for visitors to the state. Therefore, DBKK must always ensure that cleanliness, safety, and community well-being remain top priorities,” he stressed.
The Chief Minister added that the State Government remains committed to maintaining these achievements and supporting any strategic initiatives that DBKK plans to implement.
He said that among the initiatives are the implementation of the KK Smart City initiative in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), strengthening existing laws, enhancing the road system and public transportation, upgrading Kota Kinabalu City’s basic infrastructure through project applications under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), and several other initiatives that benefit the residents of Kota Kinabalu.
Hajiji also urged all DBKK employees to maintain a culture of excellence in line with stakeholder expectations and the needs of Kota Kinabalu residents, as they are the unsung heroes of the city.
He added that the efforts of DBKK personnel are crucial in realising the government’s vision of making Kota Kinabalu a prosperous, livable, sustainable, competitive and resilient city.
