GEORGE TOWN: Sebuah gudang penyimpanan perabot musnah dalam kebakaran di Air Itam di sini hari ini.

Bagaimanapun, tiada kemalangan jiwa atau kecederaan dilaporkan dalam insiden yang gambarnya serta video kejadian turut tular di media sosial.

Pengarah Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) Pulau Pinang Mohd Shoki Hamzah berkata pihaknya menerima panggilan kecemasan berhubung kebakaran itu pada 6.02 petang sebelum jentera pertama dari Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat (BBP) dikerahkan ke lokasi.

“Sebaik sahaja pihak bomba tiba, kebakaran melibatkan sebuah gudang penyimpanan barang yang diperbuat daripada kayu dan zink dengan keluasan 929 meter persegi. Kerja-kerja pemadaman dan pengawalan sedang giat dijalankan.

“Api marak dengan cepat akibat struktur binaan gudang tersebut dan pihak bomba mengambil masa kira-kira 30 minit untuk mengawal kebakaran daripada merebak. Pemadaman turut dibantu oleh BBP Jalan Perak, Balik Pulau, dan Perai,“ katanya ketika dihubungi Bernama hari ini.

Beliau berkata, operasi pemadaman turut mendapat bantuan daripada Pasukan Bomba Sukarela, manakala punca kebakaran serta jumlah kerugian masih dalam siasatan.
