JULAU (March 9): The upgrading of the Julau Water Treatment Plant, built in the 1970s, would resolve the clean water supply problem here, said Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.
He said the RM413.8 million project is ongoing and scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
“According to the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department, this plant was built in the 1970s.
“The efforts taken by the Sarawak government in upgrading this plant to meet the needs of the residents in this area are a positive step towards the development of infrastructure and facilities, as well as increasing basic amenities in rural areas,” he said.
Sng said this after inspecting soil erosion affecting Rumah Engdawie at Taman Mausing here today.
Sng, who is also Malaysian Timber Industry Board chairman, divulged that three high-impact projects would be implemented in Julau soon.
“Two of the projects have been approved, namely the constructions of a fire station and a petrol station, while the other is still in planning stage and under consideration.
“This project will have a positive impact on the residents of this area, especially from a socio-economic aspect,” he added.
Sng later distributed minor rural project grants totalling RM31,700 to the Rumah Engdawie Simpang Julau village development and security committee (JKKK) and Rumah Bunyak Nanga Dong JKKK.
