SIBU (March 15): The Sungkei Perdana 2025 programme is more than just a breaking fast event—it embodies the spirit of unity and harmony that defines Malaysia, said National Unity Minister Datuk Sri Aaron Ago Dagang.
Speaking at the mass iftar event at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 here this evening, he underscored the importance of fostering mutual understanding through communal activities, especially during Ramadan.
“National unity is the foundation of our country’s stability and prosperity. Ramadan provides us with the opportunity to practice noble values such as mutual respect, helping one another, and giving selflessly.
“In this spirit, let us strengthen our efforts to build a united nation where all citizens live in harmony and cooperation,” he said.
This year’s programme saw the preparation of 1.3 million servings of bubur lambuk nationwide, facilitated by 3,400 Rukun Tetangga (neighborhood watch) groups with 6,500 large pots.
In Sarawak alone, 110,000 servings were distributed, while the event in Sibu drew over 20,000 attendees, surpassing last year’s turnout of 15,000.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Unity, through the Department of National Unity and Integration, is organising the ‘Jom Masak Bubur Lambuk Perpaduan’ and ‘Majlis Iftar Harmoni’ at 118 locations nationwide throughout the Ramadan period.
These initiatives aim to strengthen goodwill among local communities, particularly in Rukun Tetangga areas.
“We must continue to utilise platforms like these to enhance unity and goodwill. This is a chance for us to connect, share stories and experiences, and bridge our differences.
“Through love, respect, and mutual assistance, we can build a better society and a more progressive nation,” said Aaron.
He urged the public to participate in the Majlis Iftar Harmoni events across the country, believing that such initiatives serve as vital platforms to foster closer ties among Malaysians of different races, religions, and cultures.
