KUCHING (March 23): A total of 475 Sarawakian students studying in Peninsular Malaysia received Aidilfitri contributions from Yayasan Sarawak during the Majlis Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Saturday night.
Of these recipients, 392 were from higher education institutions, 36 were under the Yayasan Sarawak Student Exchange Programme, seven were children of Yayasan Sarawak staff, and 40 were children of Rumah Sarawak Kuala Lumpur staff, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit report.
The contributions, consisting of ‘duit raya’ and food, were presented to the recipients by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
They were accompanied by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, and Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.
At the ceremony, students were also informed that they could apply for free laptops and book voucher assistance via the Yayasan Sarawak website, with applications open from yesterday to April 30.
This assistance is specifically for all Sarawakian students enrolled in public and private higher education institutions.
Organised by Yayasan Sarawak in collaboration with the Sarawak Liaison Office in Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak Volunteers, the Majlis Sungkei Anak Sarawak 2025 was attended by over 2,000 guests, including Sarawakians working in Peninsular Malaysia and the government’s strategic partners.
Guests included State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Yayasan Sarawak director Datu Mersal Abang Rosli, and state and federal Cabinet ministers.
