KUCHING (March 27): Sarawak remains steadfast in its commitment to renewable energy, exploring innovative approaches to accelerate its green initiatives and contribute meaningfully to the global sustainability agenda, said Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
Speaking after receiving a courtesy call from the Ambassador of Switzerland to Malaysia, Chantal Moser, at his office today, Dr Hazland said both parties discussed potential collaborations, particularly in the promising sectors of bio-algae and hydrogen.
“Our leadership and political stability have played a crucial role in enabling these transformative projects,” he noted.
The potential partnership with Switzerland marks a significant step in advancing Sarawak’s vision for environmental sustainability while strengthening bilateral ties.
Discussions also touched on the state’s strategic frameworks, including policies that foster research, innovation, and investment in green technologies, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
Moser acknowledged Sarawak’s dedication to green initiatives, noting that Switzerland shares a common vision in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a safer environment for future generations.
Also present at the meeting were SEDC Energy CEO Robert Hardin, representatives from agencies under the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Deputy Controller Penny Sumok, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) Senior Vice President of Human Capital and Corporate Relations Services Ismail Said, and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Senior Executive of Strategy and Corporate Development Abdul Adzim Rahman.
