KUCHING (April 10): The Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) Kuching will be organising the eighth edition of Ora Et Labora Run on Oct 4, an event aimed at bringing former students together for a meaningful reunion to share memories and give back to their alma mater.
Themed ‘Back to School!’, the run will kick off at 6am at the premises of SMK St Joseph here, according to a press release.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is OJA president, said the organising committee is hoping to attract more than 1,500 participants this year after drawing more than 1,400 runners in 2024.
“The Ora Et Labora Run is not just bringing the past students and their families together, but also current students of the St Joseph’s Family of Schools, which include SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School, and St Joseph’s International School.
“Many have supported the run event in past editions, and it has been very successful,” he said during the launch of Ora Et Labora Run 2025 recently.
Also present at the launch were OJA exco members Louis Ng, Raymond Goh, Chi Ted Fatt, Peter Teo, Edmund Cheong, and Jason Yeo; SMK St Joseph Board of Management chairman Father Felix Au; and SMK St Joseph principal James Chen and senior assistant Johnny Lim.
Dr Sim also said through this meaningful event, funds will be raised for the schools’ extracurricular activities and for the students to engage in simple business trials.
“With all three schools involved as a team, it is hoped that a solid network and a closer bond can be forged,” he added.
He said the school is seeking to raise RM2 million for Phase 1 of the SMK St Joseph’s Masterplan.
“This phase focuses on providing more facilities to encourage effective learning and collaboration among the Josephians.
“I urge all Josephians, alumni, and corporate bodies to generously join forces in raising the amount needed for this crucial upgrading project,” he said.
This year’s Ora Et Labora Run 2025 is divided into three categories: 1.4km walk for families and children, 5km fun run, and 10km race.
All participants who complete the run will receive finisher medals. For the 10km race, the top 10 finishers will receive additional cash prizes.
The registration fee for the 1.4km walk and 5km fun run is RM55 per person, while the fee for the 10km race is RM65 per person.
Each registered runner will be entitled to a running T-shirt and a running bib.
Entry forms can be obtained at Revolution Run Borneo at Green Heights here. Alternatively, those who wish to register online can do so at www.malaysiarunner.com.
