Wan Junaidi and Fauziah wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day.
KUCHING (May 10): The sacrifices and contributions of mothers should be honoured every day, not just on a specific date, said Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
In his Mother’s Day message, the Sarawak Governor emphasised that appreciating mothers helps strengthen family bonds and preserve noble values in society.
“The role of a mother is not just tradition or culture but also rooted in religious beliefs and teachings. In Islam, for example, heaven lies under the feet of mothers, signifying their high status,” he said.
Mother’s Day, celebrated in Malaysia on the second Sunday of May, pays tribute to motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
Wan Junaidi noted that while the occasion has become a significant annual celebration worldwide, expressions of love and appreciation for mothers should be continuous and sincere.
The most meaningful gift is not material wealth or luxury, but genuine attention, care, and a heartfelt smile, he added.
He described Mother’s Day as a meaningful platform to reflect on and be grateful for the sacrifices made by mothers.
“There is no treasure in this world that can match the services of a mother, starting from carrying a child for nine months and ten days, raising, educating and guiding them with full love and perseverance.”
He stressed that these sacrifices are made tirelessly to ensure children grow up in a prosperous and successful state.
In the hands of a mother, he said the future generation is formed, seeing wise leaders, people who are devoted to the community, state, country and the world be produced, he said.
Wan Junaidi highlighted that mothers play a pivotal role in developing a child’s character, personality, and moral compass.
“Through the care and love of a mother, knowledgeable, integrity-based and competitive individuals are born, capable of leading the country towards progress and prosperity.
“History proves that behind every great leader, there is a mother who is a source of strength and inspiration,” he said.
He said a mother’s resilience cannot be fully put into words.
“Even though being tired of working or managing the household chores, mothers still treat their children with patience and love. When we face sadness or failure, mothers are there to calm us and give encouragement.
“A mother’s prayer is the most powerful weapon, the cure for all sorrows,” he said.
In conjunction with Mother’s Day, he called on everyone to honour their mothers every day – by spending time with them, expressing affection, and showing gratitude.
“For those whose mothers are no longer with us, pray and give charity as a sign of lasting love.”
Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, extended their warmest wishes to all mothers in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak.
“On this meaningful occasion, Toh Puan and I express our highest appreciation and gratitude to all mothers for their invaluable services and sacrifices. May all mothers be blessed with good health and happiness.
“Mother’s Day is not just a day to give gifts or greetings, but a reminder of how important the role of mothers is in our lives. Mothers are the first people who guide us in this world, supporting us every step of the way, from learning to speak, walking to adulthood,” he said.
