KUCHING (Aug 8): A 19-year-old Indonesian male was sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here today to dealing with a gaming machine.
Julianto entered the plea after the charge under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 was read to him before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
The Section provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 for each gaming machine seized, along with imprisonment for up to five years, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, a police team raided the unit and arrested the accused on suspicion of operating an online gambling call centre.
Seized from the unit were a laptop, mouse, laptop charger and a keyboard.
The laptop was later confirmed by an expert to have been used for online gambling activities.
Meanwhile in the Sessions Court, Julianto was sentenced to 10 months’ jail for illegally entering Malaysia.
Judge Zuraidah Zakaria convicted him on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or up to five years in prison, or both, and may also include whipping of not more than six strokes.
He committed the offence at the same location on the same day and time, after checks found no record of him entering the country.
Both courts also ordered Julianto to be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department for deportation upon the completion of his custodial sentence.
The cases were prosecuted separately by deputy public prosecutors Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar and Umi Syukriah Harun, while the accused was unrepresented.
