KOTA KINABALU (Sept 3): Family support, especially from parents, was the main driving force behind the success of Nurfaezah Ali @ Mohamad Ali, who received four awards at the 29th Convocation Ceremony of the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic (PKK) on Wednesday.
Nurfaezah, 24, the youngest of three siblings from Keningau, acknowledged that managing her time wisely also contributed to her success.
“One hundred percent support from my family, especially my parents, was the main factor for today’s success. My father is my life’s compass,” she said emotionally.
“Wisely managing time is also among the factors for success because I was active in many Student Representative Council programs,” she said when met by the media on Wednesday.
Nurfaezah received the highest award, the Award of His Excellency the Governor (TYT), in addition to the Director’s Award, the Academic and Co-curricular Excellence Award, and a Special Industry Award.
She is now furthering her studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Industrial Wood Science program.
The awards were presented by the Governor of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman.
Elviensoon Tiono Tinus, a graduate with hearing and speech disabilities, also excelled in completing her studies in the Certificate of Skill in Hotel and Catering program.
“At first, I had no basic cooking skills, but with the help of lecturers, interpreters, and friends, I managed to master the skill. I am very happy because my parents were here to witness this success.
“Even though I am deaf, we can also succeed like everyone else. Don’t be afraid of challenges,” she said.
Elviensoon is now focused on intensive training for field athletic events, including discus throw, for the Malaysian Deaf Sports Games in Kuching this October.
The cheerful atmosphere in the hall turned sorrowful when the father of the late Muhammad Hafiz Zawawi Adnan went on stage to receive the certificate on behalf of his deceased son.
“My son was the youngest of four siblings and aspired to further his studies to the diploma level. It was Allah’s will that he did not get to hold this certificate. We hope his spirit will be an inspiration to his other friends,” he said.
