
Health and transport ministers to face questions on hospital readiness, thalassaemia costs and Ramadan train schedules in today’s Dewan Rakyat session
KUALA LUMPUR: The preparedness of government hospitals to handle rising non-communicable diseases and the national cost of thalassaemia treatment will be key topics in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper, Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) will ask the Health Minister about hospital readiness for diseases like diabetes and heart conditions. He will also inquire about specific allocations for early prevention programmes.
Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Kuala Langat) will seek the latest national thalassaemia patient count and estimated treatment costs from childhood to age 40. He will further ask if the government plans to develop gene therapy treatments for patients.
Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) will question the Transport Minister on adjusting Rapid Rail peak hours during Ramadan due to changing travel patterns. He will ask for details on the proposed new schedule.
Datuk Dr Richard Rapu (GPS-Betong) will ask the Women, Family and Community Development Minister to explain the Malaysia Care Economy framework. He seeks details on how its 2026-2030 action plan will address gaps in care for seniors, children and persons with disabilities.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) is scheduled to table two Constitution Amendment Bills for a first reading. The Finance Minister will also table the Supplementary Supply Bill (2025) 2026 for a first reading.
The Capitation Grant Bill 2026 is listed for a second reading by the Finance Minister. A motion on the Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) 1/2026 will then be tabled by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
