Carmen executes her routine at the recent World Taijiquan Championships.
KUCHING (May 12): Sarawak’s Carmen Chaw Jia Min has returned home from the 5th World Taijiquan Championships with a silver medal and renewed belief ahead of the selection for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026.
Competing on the world stage for the first time, Carmen produced a sterling display in the Sun Style Taijiquan event to score 9.260 points to finish second among five competitors.
She placed fifth in the Optional Taijijian and seventh in the Yang Style Taijijian categories.
“It was a rare opportunity to challenge myself internationally and learn from top competitors,” said Carmen.
“The World Championships were definitely more challenging because of the high level of athletes, but competing with them taught me a lot and motivated me even more.”
The Swinburne University Sarawak student admitted that balancing studies, training, and competitions has not been easy but credited her mother’s constant support for helping her persevere.
The Malaysian team collected eight gold, 10 silver, and six bronze medals at the championships in Burgas, Bulgaria.
