KOTA KINABALU (May 26): Sabah fencing preparation for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) has been further enhanced with a training stint at the prestigious Hong Kong Fencing School.
Two of the state fencers Aries Eve and Amelia Chin in the women’s foil team will undergo a two-week training programme in Hong Kong.
“Aries and Amelia will train under Mr Wong Tsan whose students include two-time Olympic champion Cheung Ka Long,” state coach Kelvin Chung said in a WhatsApp message on Monday.
“The hope is to win a medal in the women’s Foil team event at Sukma.
“We are hoping to win at least a bronze medal, but the aim is to win gold,” added Chung.
Meanwhile, a third athlete Louis Chow is also part of the travelling squad to Hong Kong.
“Louis is preparing, hopefully, for the SEA Games,” said Chung.
The state fencers left for Hong Kong on Sunday. Sabah Fencing Association president Datuk Alex Sham was among those to send them off.
