IPOH (June 11): Izara Leanne Sufeeya Mohamad Al Siddiq made it two gold medals in three days after winning the 3m springboard diving event (Girl’s Under-12) at the 58th Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) Aquatics Championships on Wednesday.
The young Sarawak diver, who had earlier won the 1m springboard title, scored 183.00 points to add another gold to her collection.
Sarawak also celebrated a silver medal through debutant Andrew Chung Shi Chien who scored 203.65 points in the 3m springboard (Boy’s Under-12).
There was a double heartbreaker, however, as Aleena Yasmine Mohamad Al Siddiq and Izz Rayqqal Mohd Dzulzakaria both missed the podium fnishing fourh in the girl’s and boy’s events respectively.
Three days into the diving competition, Sarawak leads the standings with four gold, three silver and one bronze medals followed by Selangor (2-3-0) and WP Kuala Lumpur (2-0-1).
Meanwhile, as the going gets tough the Sarawak swimmers made sure every medal counts on Day 3 of the championships here. The medal tally for the state swimming squad rose to seven gold, seven silver and 12 bronze for a total of 26 medals.
It was a good day for Sheamus Chew Heng Yi who contributed two medals to Sarawak’s tally. He secured silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in the 100m freestyle (Boy’s 13-15). Teammate Anson Chiu Wei Kiet joined Sheamus on the podium for his third place in the 200m IM.
Meanwhile, Simpson Wong Zheng Hang extended continued his strong mometum in the championships by taking silver in the 200m IM (Boy’s 7-12).
The girls clinched two bronzes through Liysha Liung Chen Celestine in the 100m freestyle (13-15) and Chereen Ngo Yi Rui in the 200m IM (16-18).
Sarawak’s mixed 4x100m freestyle relay quartet (aged 13-15) snatch the bronze medal in Ipoh.
Sarawak’s mixed relay squad in the 4x100m freestyle comprising Anson, Elisha Lee Ern, Sheamus and Liysha settled for another bronze with a time of 3:59.27 behind Selangor (3:54.83) and Pulau Pinang (3:55.69).
The state swimmers are currently lying fourth in the overall medal standings behind Selangor, Pulau Pinang and Melaka.
The 58th MSSM Aquatic Championships, which feature swimming, diving and water polo, will end on Friday.
