UMS contingent crowned SUIPTS overall champions.
KOTA KINABALU (June 23): Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was crowned the overall champions of the Sabah Higher Education Institutions Games (SUIPTS) after winning 29 gold, 13 silver and five bronze medals.
Universiti Teknologi Mara Sabah Branch (UiTM Sabah) emerged as the runner-up with five golds, six silver and 10 bronze medals.
In third place was UMS Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) having won four gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Dr Hanafiah Ayub, the Deputy Secretary of the Strategic Planning Division of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), officiated the closing ceremony at the Auditorium Pascasiswazah UMS on Sunday.
According to him, SUIPTS serves not only as a platform for competition but also as a means of fostering unity among students from diverse backgrounds.
“The championship is an important medium for cultivating discipline, integrity, teamwork and a strong sense of identity among higher education students.
“Congratulations to all 23 higher education institutions (IPT) that participated in the Games.
“The active participation and sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament reflect the strong commitment of the higher education community toward the development of sports and human capital,“ he was quoted in press release issued UMS.
Also present at the ceremony was Prof Dr Raman Noordin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni).
