KUCHING (Feb 1): A total of 12,656 Sarawak flood victims from 3,720 families have been evacuated as of 4pm today, showing a downward trend from 12,914 recorded at 12pm this afternoon, according to a report from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
The committee also reported that there are currently 64 active temporary evacuation centres (PPS) active across Sarawak, with two having been closed – SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa in Kuching and Balai Raya Ensebang Padang Bilon in Balai Ringin.
Additionally, two PPS in Kuching, Dewan Haji Kamaruddin and SK Sejijak, are scheduled to close later today.
Meanwhile, two new PPS have been activated in Mukah: at Kem Belia Mukah and Dewan Kampung Jemoreng. Another new PPS has been set up in Miri at Dewan Masyarakat Beluru.
The Bintulu Division recorded the highest number of evacuees currently, with Naim Paragon PPS sheltering 1,968 people, while Civic Centre PPS is currently accommodating 1,037 evacuees.
In total, 18 districts across seven divisions have been affected by the floods.
In addition to flood victims, the SDMC noted that some PPS have been activated for victims of landslides and fires.
In Miri, 105 landslide victims are taking shelter at the Malaysian Red Crescent Miri PPS, while 27 others are at Dewan Kampung Sukan PPS.
In Bintulu, 38 landslide victims are being sheltered at SMK Tatau PPS.
In Kanowit, Dewan Datuk Aaron PPS in Bawan is currently sheltering 36 victims of a longhouse fire.
