KUCHING (Feb 1): The Sarawak Education Department has urged all Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates affected by floods to immediately contact their respective schools to coordinate their return for the remaining examination papers and seek necessary assistance.
Sarawak Education director, Omar Mahli, advised affected candidates to also inform personnel at their respective temporary evacuation centres (PPS) if they require further support.
“School principals are actively working to bring students back to school, particularly in Miri and Subis.
“Some principals are making arrangements to return students before this coming Monday,” he said when met at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sejijak PPS here today.
He added that Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bekenu, a non-boarding school, has made temporary accommodation available to ensure 77 SPM candidates can return to sit for their examinations.
Omar also urged parents to ensure their children return to school, as the final SPM examination papers — including Biology, Business Studies, and Geography — will take place from Monday to Thursday.
Meanwhile, he reported that 161 schools have been affected by the floods, comprising 157 secondary schools and four primary schools.
