KUCHING (Feb 17): The Sarawak government, through the Sarawak Water Supply Master Plan, has allocated significant investments to enhance the supply infrastructure across the state, particularly in the rural areas.
The Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi stated that key ongoing projects included the construction of new treatment plants to increase the capacity for clean water production.
Additionally, he said the replacement of old pipelines across Sarawak was also underway, as well as the adoption of modern technology and smart systems to detect leaks, improve efficiency, and reduce water wastage.
“These initiatives will only succeed with the commitment and cooperation of the entire workforce within the industry.
“I am confident that the workforce in this industry will provide the best service to the people of Sarawak with the strong team spirit demonstrated,” said the state deputy minister at the launch of Sarawak Water Supply Sports (SBAS) 2025, which took place at the Royal Malaysian Customs Academy (Akmal) Hall here today.
Also present was the Department of Rural Water Supply (JBALB) Sarawak director Awang Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan, also the host of SBAS.
SBAS 2025 is the fourth edition of the tournament and it runs until this Thursday.
A total of 433 athletes are competing in 11 events: football, netball, volleyball, futsal, carom, darts, bowling, badminton, table tennis, tug of war, and invitational golf.
They are representing the ministry, JBALB Sarawak, Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board, and Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd.
SBAS serves as a selection platform for athletes to represent the water supply agencies in Sarawak at this year’s National Water Supply Sports (SBAM) Championship, to be taking place in Selangor from Aug 20 to 25.
