KOTA KINABALU (Apr 8): The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) thwarted an attempt to smuggle subsidized diesel in Inanam on Monday (April 7), seizing two modified vehicles in the operation.
Sabah KPDN director Shahril Nizam Shahidin said enforcement officers intercepted a pickup truck and a lorry during an inspection at a petrol station. The vehicles, valued at RM45,752.50, were allegedly modified to transport subsidized diesel illegally.
Two local men were detained for further investigation under the Supply Control Act 1961. If convicted, individuals face fines up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, while companies may be fined up to RM2 million.
Shahril Nizam warned that KPDN will intensify enforcement to curb the smuggling of controlled goods.
He urged the public to report suspicious activities via the ministry’s hotline (1-800-886-800) or WhatsApp (019-848 8000).
