KUCHING (Sept 9): Some 200 students from six secondary schools here participated in the Petronas Powering Knowledge: Discover Petronas@Schools TVET Kuching programme at the Centre of Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) in Santubong on Monday.
The students from SMK Santubong, SMK Bandar Samariang, SMK Demak Baru, SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg, SMKA Tun Ahmad Zaidi, and Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdilah explored the principle of aerodynamics by designing and building their own mini cars to race down a ramp at maximum speed.
Petronas in a press release said the one-day programme also included a series of engaging lab workshops conducted by Centexs, covering topics such as oil and gas, smart building systems, electrical technology, digital innovation, and green energy.
Last year, similar Petronas outreach events designed to ignite the students’ interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) were held in Sri Aman, Miri, Gedong and Kapit, which were attended by more than 650 secondary school students.
Earlier this year, similar events held in Mukah, Baram and Sibu reached out to over 570 secondary school students.
Discover Petronas @Schools is an initiative to promote the Petronas Education
