KUCHING (March 27): Police have arrested two men suspected of setting fire to an excavator at a project site on Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Mohd Salahuddin here on Wednesday.
Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the suspects, aged 34 and 46, were nabbed by personnel from the district police headquarters following an investigation and intelligence gathered.
“Initial investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from the suspects’ dissatisfaction with their employer over unpaid wages,” he said in a statement.
He added the duo is believed to have used a petrol-filled glass bottle to set fire to the excavator.
Mohd Farhan also stressed the incident was not linked to gangsterism.
The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance, which carries up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

“The public is also advised not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding this incident,” said Mohd Farhan.
