KUCHING (Feb 25): The EIC Connect Energy Borneo 2025 gathered over 1,200 industry leaders, innovators and stakeholders from the global energy sector at the Hikmah Exchange Convention Centre here today.
Featuring over 80 distinguished speakers across 25 insightful sessions, the event explored the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the energy landscape.
The event was officially launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who delivered the keynote address.
In his speech, Abang Johari outlined Sarawak’s vision to lead the region in sustainable energy, stressing the importance of innovation, renewable energy and cross-border collaboration.
“As we push forward in our commitment to net-zero emissions, this platform will also support Sarawak’s 2025 carbon neutrality target, accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions while reinforcing Sarawak’s leadership in sustainable energy.
“With a strong focus on renewables and decarbonisation, I believe this event will showcase cutting-edge innovations from around the world – bringing together industry leaders, innovators and decision-makers to address shared energy challenges and drive collective progress,” he said.
He emphasised the need for governments, industries and communities in uniting to accelerate the energy transition, attract investments and create a sustainable, resilient and inclusive energy ecosystem.
With a strong emphasis on decarbonisation and sustainable development, EIC Connect Energy Borneo 2025 aligns closely with Malaysia’s long-term energy goals and Sarawak’s Green Energy Agenda.
The event also marked the exchange of seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) valued at over RM200 million, highlighting robust strategic collaboration and significant support within the energy sector in Sarawak and beyond.
In the same event, Energy Industries Council (EIC) chief executive officer Stuart Broadley in his welcoming speech said that Borneo, especially Sarawak, was already among the most active regions in Asean in advancing towards net zero emissions.
“With the abundance of natural resources, strong leadership, the right policies, investments, and technology adoption, we are optimistic that Borneo will be Asean’s sustainable energy hub, ensuring both economic growth and environmental stewardship.
EIC CONNECT Energy Borneo is organised by EIC and supported by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, Business Events Sarawak and Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
