TENOM (Aug 4): The 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang should be extended to the village level to foster patriotism and encourage more people to fly the national and Sabah flag during National Month celebrations, said Datuk Jamawi Jaafar.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry said the initiative is important to ensure that the public continues to appreciate the meaning of independence and the long struggle the nation went through, enabling Malaysians today to enjoy life in peace, harmony, and stability.
“We want the spirit of independence to be carried through to the village level by conducting campaigns to encourage communities to fly the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah flag.
“This is important to remind us that the journey to independence was a long one, allowing us to enjoy the peaceful, harmonious, and stable life we have today,” he said after participating in the 2026 Tenom District 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang Walkabout Campaign at Malleh Square, Tenom Town, on Monday.
The programme was organised by the Tenom District Information Department.
During the programme, the delegation visited business premises around Tenom Town to distribute Jalur Gemilang and Sabah state flags to traders and members of the public.
Jamawi, who is Melalap assemblyman, said the Sabah government welcomed the implementation of the campaign, which was launched Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor on Aug 1.
He also expressed appreciation to all civil servants, heads of government departments, and community leaders who attended and supported the programme.
“I would like to thank all the civil servants who came this morning. Although it was raining, it did not dampen our spirit to work together in making this campaign a success,” he said.
He added that this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day theme, “Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati” should be translated into a spirit of unity and love for the nation so that prosperity can continue to be enjoyed by all Malaysians, particularly those in Sabah and Tenom.
