KOTA KINABALU (June 7): A fishing boat was destroyed in a fire in front of the Safma market here early Saturday morning.
Kota Kinabalu Fire Station chief Ordine Gilu said the station received a distress call at 3.56am.
A total of 17 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, assisted by five personnel from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and two police officers.
Ordine said it took firefighters about six hours to control the blaze, using foam and sea water.
“The operation ended at 10.54am without any untoward incidents. The cause of the fire and the total losses are still under investigation,” he said.
