TAWAU (Nov 4): The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) YES Sabah, through its Student Section of University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), successfully organized the “Little Engineers” Programme at Rumah Anak Yatim Ar-Raudhah, Tawau, on November 1, as part of its initiative to introduce Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to young learners.
The outreach programme aimed to inspire interest in STEM among children through hands-on learning and interactive activities design to spark creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Participants had the opportunity to engage in fun engineering-based projects such as structural building challenges, all guided by UMS engineering students and IEM YES members. Representatives from IEM YES Sabah, including Lee Tze YES, chairman of IEM YES Sabah, Ag. Khairul Akmal Bin Kamaludin, Immediate Past Chairman, Harald Jungkim, Publicity committee and Sharlene Lee, Social and Community committee, joined the event to show their support and encouragement to the young participants. Programme director Haziqahsyaziyah Binti Saleman highlighted that the initiative not only introduces children to STEM concepts but also empowers them to dream beyond their circumstances, fostering hope and ambition through hands-on learning. The event also highlighted IEM YES Sabah’s dedication to community engagement and education outreach, particularly in empowering underprivileged children with knowledge and opportunities that may inspire future career paths in science and engineering.
