Norizan joins officers from JPJ and AADK during the operation in Bintulu.
BINTULU (July 7): The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has launched an integrated anti-drug operation in partnership with the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and other enforcement agencies to strengthen road safety and curb drug abuse among commercial vehicle drivers.
The operation, which commenced nationwide on July 1, is being carried out throughout Sarawak with the participation of AADK Sarawak, the Royal Malaysia Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) and the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC).
The Bintulu leg of the operation on Monday was joined by Sarawak JPJ director Norizan Jili, the head of AADK Bintulu and the head of JPJ Bintulu.
In a statement, JPJ Sarawak said the operation targets goods vehicle drivers, public service vehicle (PSV) drivers and tourism vehicle drivers.
“During the operation, drivers will undergo inspections and drug screening to ensure only those free from drug abuse are allowed to operate commercial vehicles on public roads.
“Drivers who test positive during the screening will face action by AADK under the relevant provisions of the law,” it said.
JPJ Sarawak added that it would also take firm action against offenders, including detaining their vocational licences (PSV/GDL) for investigation and suspending their driving licences in accordance with existing laws.
The department stressed that road safety cannot be compromised, adding that the operation underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring only responsible, disciplined and drug-free individuals are permitted to operate commercial vehicles.
It said the integrated operation is aimed at protecting road users’ lives, strengthening governance in the transport sector and enhancing public confidence in the country’s transport system.
JPJ Sarawak also pledged to continue strengthening strategic cooperation with relevant enforcement agencies to improve legal compliance, enhance road safety and safeguard the wellbeing of all road users.
