KUCHING (Feb 18): Asian Boxing Championship super bantamweight champion Daeloniel Mcdelon Bong has successfully secured his ticket to the World Boxing Championship Asia that will be held sometime in May this year.
This is following the majority draw that the “Kilat Boy” gained in his professional fight against Resatu Mahmoud Sajin “The Hammer” of Bangladesh in the Path To Glory Hustle In Dhaka Square at Kemal Ataturk Park, last night.
It was also the first draw for the Sri-Aman born Daeloniel who now holds a record of six wins, three defeats and one draw from 10 professional bouts.
“First of all, I would like to say thank you to all those who have supported and prayed for me all this while.
“I took the risk to come here to face the Bangladesh boxer. He was rather solid despite taking many punches from me. He was able to last six rounds which resulted in a majority draw,” said Daeloniel.
“For me and all the spectators, everyone knows who is the winner. However, l accept the decision made by the judges and organiser with an open heart,” added Daeloniel who was disappointed for not winning the bout.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association president Dato Rahman Lariwoo told The Borneo Post that he is happy with the result and respected the judges’ decision.
“The result was 57-57, 57-57 and 57-58 and three judges ruled in favour of Daeloniel. It looked as they were announcing that Daeloniel was the winner and the referee was about to raise Daeloniel’s hand and suddenly it became a majority draw.
“I accept the final decision and it is alright as long as the Kilat Boy qualified for the next fight in April,” he said.
Rahman took the opportunity to extend his deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Sarawak Land Consolidation Authority and other sponsors who love boxing.
“I am proud that Saba can produce top quality professional boxer for Malaysia and l hope that we can become the overall champions in boxing at Sukma XXI,” added Rahman.
