A modified 4WD with a 200-litre auxiliary tank was seized in Beaufort as part of Ops Tiris 4.0, with the driver released on police bail
KOTA KINABALU: Enforcement officers have uncovered a diesel subsidy leak tactic, seizing a modified four-wheel-drive vehicle with an auxiliary tank containing approximately 200 litres of fuel.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Beaufort branch conducted the raid at a petrol station based on intelligence and surveillance of suspicious activity.
Beaufort KPDN Chief Enforcement Officer Julie Julhani said further inspection revealed the vehicle was modified with an additional tank believed to be used for siphoning subsidised fuel.
“Subsequently, KPDN seized the vehicle, the diesel, and related documents for further investigation,” she said.
The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961, with action to be taken against both the driver and the petrol station.
According to a statement, the driver’s statement was recorded and he was released on police bail.
