KUCHING (April 8): The award-winning Kuching Wind Symphony (KWS) is set to stage a powerful comeback with its upcoming ‘Friends in Concert 2025’ this April 13, following a successful repertoire last year.
It is informed that the concert is scheduled to be held at Chung Hua Middle School No 3 hall here, with the curtain-raiser set at 2pm.
Around 600 attendees are expected at the event, which will showcase the talents of 70 young musicians aged 12 to 17.
It will also feature performances from both local and international compositions, including guest performer Piyapat Wichai from Thailand.
One of the highlights of the event includes the world premiere of the newly-composed ‘Joyous Life’ piece, which will be conducted by Junt Apivut Minalai of Thailand’s Suranaree Wind Symphony.
Under the baton of one of KWS founders Wilson JL Tan and special guest conductor Tan Soh Hwa from Singapore, the concert is expected to deliver an inspiring musical journey that celebrates wind music from Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan.
It will not only showcase the students’ dedication and musical skills, but also serve as a platform to build confidence and encourage new members to join the growing KWS community.
Apart from KWS, the St Joseph’s Private School Band, St Joseph’s Marching Band, and St Teresa School Band will also be performing popular pieces, such as ‘Puteri Santubong’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘Goodbye My Love’, and K-Pop hit ‘APT’.
Further information on the concert, general updates, and membership enquiries can be found on KWS’ social media pages.
