Lambs are a favourite among children, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.
MIRI (May 28): Beginning June 1, the iconic Miri Crocodile Farm Wildlife Park cum Mini Zoo at Kuala Baram here will officially be renamed Miri Animal Wonderland, promising an immersive wildlife experience for visitors of all ages.
With a fresh new identity, the park aims to blend adventure, education and conservation, creating a must-visit destination for nature lovers and families alike.
Situated in Kuala Baram, about a 30-minute drive from the heart of Miri along the picturesque coastal highway, the park holds the distinction of being the first and largest crocodile farm in northern Sarawak.
Over the years, it has become a well-known destination for both local and international tourists seeking a close-up view of some of the planet’s most fascinating creatures.
Spanning 22 acres and officially registered under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the park plays a role in safeguarding endangered crocodile species and promoting biodiversity conservation.
The park houses over 1,000 crocodiles, including the formidable Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus Porosus) and the rare Malayan Gharial (Tomistoma Schlegelii), allowing visitors to observe the reptiles in natural breeding enclosures and protected pools.
Daily crocodile and snake feeding sessions are held at 11am, 11.30am, 3pm and 3.30pm, giving visitors multiple opportunities to witness the animals in action.
Beyond its crocodile attractions, the wildlife park also features a mini zoo with a variety of exotic and rare animals, including sun bears, southern cassowaries, Javan deer, reticulated pythons, pig-tailed and long-tailed macaques, monitor lizards, owls, eagles, civets and binturong.
Ponies are one of the major attractions at the farm.
Visitors can also enjoy interactive experiences such as feeding selected animals, including goats, snakes and crocodiles, while pony rides remain especially popular among children.
Surrounded by lush greenery, winding trails and landscaped gardens, the park combines recreation with education through informative displays on the animals’ habits, diets and natural habitats, while promoting environmental awareness.
Miri Animal Wonderland is particularly popular with school groups and nature clubs for its combination of entertainment, outdoor learning and conservation education.
The park is open daily from 9am to 5pm, with ticket sales closing at 4pm.
Admission fees are RM30 for Malaysian adults and RM15 for children under 11, while foreign visitors are charged RM45 for adults and RM25 for children.
Educational materials and guided information are available in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin to enhance the visitor experience.
