KUCHING (May 27): An anti-vice operation by police saw the arrest of a foreign woman on suspicion of engaging in prostitution at a premises along Jalan Stutong here on Tuesday.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 34-year-old was detained around 1.10pm during an Ops Noda operation, with police seizing condoms, lubricant and other related paraphernalia, as well as a mobile phone.
“The suspect is believed to have used the Michat mobile application to advertise sexual services and connect with clients.
“The activity is believed to have been ongoing for about two months, with charges reportedly ranging between RM180 and RM250 per session,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 372(1)(e) of the Penal Code for exploitation in prostitution, which carries imprisonment of up to 15 years along with whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
Alexson said police investigations are also being carried out under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as the woman failed to produce valid travel documents or pass to remain in Malaysia.
Conviction under Section 6(1)(c) carroes a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, as well as whipping.
Alexson said police will continue to intensify enforcement operations to curb immoral activities and offences that threaten public safety and order.
