SIBU (April 16): Rajang Taekwondo Club (RTC) is sending 46 exponents for the Sarawak Taekwondo Kyorugi and Poomsae Championships to be held in Bintulu from April 16-18.
Sibu MP Oscar Ling expressed confidence in the players to rise to the occasion on the back of their training.
“It is time for you to showcase your prowess at the championships and make Sibu proud,” he to the athletes when handing over the flag to the RTC team last weekend.
RTC adviser Thomas Tang reminded the athletes that the tournament serves as a platform to select those to represent Sarawak at the coming Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma).
At their previous state-level championships held in Mukah, RTC returned with 16 gold, seven silver and 14 bronze medals.
“I am confident the team will come back from Bintulu with an ever better achievement,” Tang said.
More than 800 exponents from 20 clubs affiliated to Sarawak Taekwondo Association are expected to take part in the three-day championships.
The RTC squad is led by team manager Kong Sui Ming and coach Tie Ton Siong.
Meanwhile, local entrepreneur Datuk Lau Ngie Hua contributed 50 jackets and T-shorts to the team for the tournament. Lau’s representative Wong Wen Kwang handed over the items during the flag presentation ceremony.
