KUCHING (April 30): The Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA), in collaboration with the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA), held the Sarawak AGG Carnival 2026 and MAGGA National Series 1 last weekend.
The two-day event held at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters here, drew about 300 gymnasts and officials from across the country.
Day one featured the National AGG Development (NAD) individual grading and NAD group competition. Organisers said this edition recorded the largest participation to date for the individual grading segment, alongside a strong increase in entries from Sarawak-based teams in the NAD group categories.
On the second day, attention shifted to the MAGGA National Series 1 NAD group competition and the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG) programme events. A key highlight was an AGG training workshop conducted by the Malaysia Junior Team and Malaysia Junior Mixed Team, providing participants with valuable exposure and technical development opportunities.
The event was graced by Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Kho Teck Wan who represented Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.
Also present were representatives from MAGGA and SAGGA leadership.
Kho commended SAGGA for developing the sport and pledged continued support in providing Dewan Sa’ati as a platform for SAGGA activities.
Meanwhile, MAGGA described the meet as “two electrifying days of competition” while SAGGA welcomed the growing participation of local clubs and gymnasts, highlighting the importance of its collaboration with MAGGA in providing Sarawak athletes with opportunities to train alongside the national squad.
Among the notable results in the NAD group category, Mine Dance Studio’s ‘Mined to Shine’ clinched the Kinder title while Kinetic Dance Academy’s ‘Kinetic 2’ topped Level 1.
Sarawak teams dominated several divisions, with Track and Dance winning both Level 2 through ‘Luminous’ and Level 3 through ‘Silhouette Seekers’.
In the IFAGG programme, Track and Dance’s ‘TD Elite Prime’ emerged champion in the 8–10 years short programme while Selangor-based clubs secured multiple titles across other age categories.
The participation of the Malaysia Junior Team and Malaysia Junior Mixed Team also formed part of their preparations for the upcoming IFAGG Asian Championships (Junior and Women), scheduled to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan from June 12 to 14.
Beyond competition, the event also underscored Sarawak’s growing profile as a sports tourism destination, offering visitors the opportunity to explore its cultural and natural attractions, including the Borneo Cultures Museum and its renowned rainforest biodiversity.
Established in 2019, SAGGA continues to focus on developing AGG in Sarawak through grassroots programmes, structured athlete pathways and certified coaching systems, with its AGG School Programme serving as a key initiative to expand access to the sport.
