KUCHING (Sept 11): Outstanding individuals and organisations will be honoured for their contributions to Sarawak’s arts, culture, heritage, and creative industry at the upcoming Sarawak Arts Awards 2025 on Oct 22.
State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the biennial awards, now in its fourth edition, is the highest recognition for arts and cultural practitioners in Sarawak.
“The Sarawak Arts Awards recognises the contributions of these individuals and organisations in elevating Sarawak’s arts, culture, heritage, and creative industry to greater heights, not only in Malaysia but also internationally.
“This award ceremony also recognises local talents in various art forms including theatre, dance and music,” he told a press conference here today.
Abdul Karim said this year’s awards, which will take place at the State Legislative Assembly Complex here, saw 92 nominations received from June 1 to July 1.
The categories for the awards include the Sarawak Tokoh Seni Award 2025; Anugerah Pendukung Seni Media (Arts Media Contributor Award); Anugerah Pendukung Seni Agensi Kerajaan & Korporat (Arts Contributor Award – Government Agencies & Corporates); Anugerah Pendukung Seni Badan Bukan Kerajaan (Arts Contributor Award – Non-Governmental Organisations); Anugerah Opera Kenyalang (Seni Teater) (Opera Kenyalang Award – Theatre Arts); Anugerah Sri Ritma Kenyalang (Seni Muzik) (Sri Ritma Kenyalang Award – Music Arts); Anugerah Kesuma Kenyalang (Seni Tari) (Kesuma Kenyalang Award – Dance Arts); and Nilakandi Sarawak Arts Lifetime Achievement Award.
Winners will each receive a cash prize of RM5,000, a trophy, a certificate of appreciation, a hamper worth RM500 containing Sarawak products, and a choice of either an umrah package or a holiday package.
Abdul Karim thanked the event’s sponsors as well as the media for their continued support in highlighting and promoting Sarawak’s arts and culture industry.
“With this prestigious award, I believe our arts and culture practitioners will continue to be recognised and placed alongside other distinguished figures who contribute to the progress, sustainability, and richness of Sarawak’s cultural heritage,” he said.
He called on all Sarawakians to celebrate the contributions of cultural and artistic practitioners and to make this year’s awards a memorable occasion to inspire unity and continued efforts to uplift the state’s arts and culture industry to international recognition.
