KUCHING (April 30): The possibility of introducing direct flights between Sarawak and Pahang was among the key matters discussed during a courtesy visit by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail in Kuantan yesterday.
According to a statement, the Deputy Premier was leading a Sarawak government delegation to Pahang for the Usahawan Sarawak 2026 Showcase held at Kuantan City Mall, a programme aimed at promoting Sarawak entrepreneurs and products to the Peninsular Malaysia market.
Accompanying him were State Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment advisor Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais and permanent secretary Datu Lester Matthew.
During the discussion, both parties discussed various areas of mutual interest, including efforts to enhance economic and trade relations between Sarawak and Pahang.
Among the proposals raised was the potential development of more efficient logistics services between the two regions, including the possibility of direct flights to facilitate the movement of tourists, entrepreneurs and investors.
They also explored collaboration between ports in Pahang and Sarawak to boost trade, particularly in the halal industry and cruise tourism activities.
In addition, Sarawak and Pahang agreed to strengthen cooperation in the creative industry, especially in songket, which holds high cultural value and strong commercial potential.
Awang Tengah said Sarawak remains open to expanding strategic cooperation with other states for mutual benefit, particularly in trade, tourism, investment and small and medium enterprise development.
He also expressed appreciation to the Pahang government for its warm reception and commitment to strengthening long-standing ties between the two states.
The visit reflected the spirit of close cooperation within the Malaysian federation and ongoing efforts to enhance domestic economic growth through inter-state strategic networks.
