KUCHING (Nov 21): A Sarawakian dentist has his rights vindicated against the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) at the High Court here today.
Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen in a statement said he had represented the dentist in seeking a judicial review against the council which had refused to register his client as a specialist.
“MDC made the decision in February 2024 under the new Dental Act 2018 which came into force in 2022.
“This is despite the fact that the dentist had completed the Degree of Master of Dental Science in University of Malaya in 2004; admitted as Member of Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005; and registered as a specialist in the National Specialist Register in 2011,” he said.
Chong, on behalf of the dentist, filed the action against the MDC in May this year.
“After several appearances in court, the MDC finally conceded to the dentist’s claim and registered him as a dental specialist in the Specialist Division of Malaysian Register of Dental Practitioners.
Chong stressed that when any government agency has done a wrong or unjust act, the court of law is always the last resort for any citizen to vindicate and seek justice to address their plight.
“I am glad that after the matter was brought to court and after several months in court, the MDC has finally come to their senses and conceded to the dentist’s claim,” he said.
