BANGKOK: A total of 11 Bangladeshis believed to be heading to Malaysia were nabbed by Thai police last Saturday after their crammed pickup truck overturned in Sa Kaeo Province, an eastern border province of Thailand located about 245 kilometres from Bangkok.
In a statement, Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) said the 11 men were aged between 22 and 48 years old.
In the 5 am incident, after noticing the speeding pickup truck, the Highway Police gave a chase before it lost control and overturned.
“The 35-year-old driver, a Thai man, fled the scene after the accident. The highway police found the 11 Bangladeshis in the severely damaged vehicle.
“Initial investigations revealed that the group traveled from Bangladesh to Cambodia before illegally crossing into Thailand via the pickup truck, en route to Malaysia,“ it said.
CIB said police is tracking down the driver.–Bernama
