KUCHING (Dec 6): A search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway after two five-year-old girls went missing from their home in Kampung Pasir Pandak this evening.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at 8pm reporting that Humaira Qalesya Mohd Dir and NurAshafieya Aisyah Abd Nasru had gone missing.
A team of nine firefighters from Petra Jaya station was immediately dispatched following the report from Santubong Police Station.
They were said to have gone to their grandmother’s house, located about 50 metres from their home, to play with their cousins at 9am.
“At 11am earlier, the father of one of the children realised that both children were not at the play area.
“An initial search was carried out by the family around the village, but the children were still not found,” Bomba said in a statement.
Humaira was reported to be wearing a black-and-white striped shirt, blue jeans, and green slippers, while NurAshafieya was wearing a white shirt and purple slippers.
A police report was lodged at 6pm to request assistance from relevant authorities and formally launch the search operation after the children could not be located, despite efforts to expand the search radius.
Bomba said it is working closely with The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) with their K9 units and other agencies in the SAR effort.
