KOTA KINABALU (Dec 7): The marketability rate of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) graduates has increased.
It reached 98.5 percent in 2023, compared to 98.3 percent in 2022 and 96.2 percent in 2021.
UMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor disclosed this during the UMS 26th Convocation ceremony on Saturday.
A total of 4,493 graduates will be receiving their scrolls from December 7 to 10.
Kasim said of the figure, 119 people will receive their Doctor of Philosophy, followed by 335 for Masters, 124 for Postgraduate Diplomas, 3,862 for Bachelor’s and 53 for Diplomas.
“Over the past three decades, UMS has produced a total of 91,915 graduates in various fields, who are now competent and high-caliber human capital.
“They have contributed greatly to the development of local, national and international communities.
“This is proof that the education provided by UMS is not only academically oriented, but also builds soft skills that are important in everyday life,” he said.
Prof Kasim emphasised that in an increasingly competitive job market, employers are not only looking for academic degree holders but also individuals who possess soft skills, communication skills, critical thinking and the ability to work in a team.
The Vice-Chancellor then advised the graduates to always be open to lifelong learning such as digital technology, data management and artificial intelligence (AI), as they will be facing a more dynamic and challenging world once they leave the institute.
“As a UMS graduate, you now have a greater responsibility, not limited to your personal career, but also to the wellbeing of society and the development of the country.
“On your journey to build a career and pursue success, remember that integrity and ethics are non-negotiable values,” he said.
