KOTA KINABALU (May 6): The Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), where they were warmly received by SCCC Main Committee members.
The delegation, led by Dr Izaan Jamil, Head of Entrepreneurship Research and Development, aimed to foster strategic relations and initiate discussions on potential collaborations between UMS and SCCC.
The dialogue focused on enhancing entrepreneurship development, strengthening research cooperation, and laying the groundwork for the establishment of the proposed SCCC-UMS Academic Chair.
During the meeting, both parties expressed strong mutual interest in promoting knowledge exchange and industry-academia collaboration to address emerging business challenges and opportunities in Sabah.
SCCC president Datuk Frankie Liew emphasized the importance of nurturing future-ready graduates and supporting innovative initiatives that drive sustainable economic growth in the state.
“We are honored to engage with UMS in building meaningful partnerships that not only benefit students and entrepreneurs but also contribute to the broader economic and social development of Sabah,” said Liew.
The proposed Academic Chai is envisioned as a long-term platform to support joint research, policy dialogues, academic forums and talent development in areas relevant to the local and regional economy.
This visit marks a positive step toward a dynamic partnership that bridges academia and industry, in line with Malaysia’s vision of a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.
Those who participated in the exchange included Vice President cum Secretary-General Ir. Ts. KJ Tan, JP, Vice President cum Women Entrepreneur Chairlady Tan Siew Ling, Secretary Assistant Chea Hoong Tak, Committee Members Joanis Yee, Chin Hui Zhi, Hong Jia Hao and Women Entrepreneur representative Cheong Siau Ling.
The UMS delegation included Dr Lim Thien Sang, former director of UMS Flexible Study, Dr Hj Borhan Abdullah, former director of UMS Investment and Endowment, and Dr Andi Tamsang, head of Hospitality and Hotelab.
