KUCHING (March 17): The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) signed a collaboration proposal today to establish a strategic partnership for the upcoming International Conference on Advanced Applied Sciences and Sustainability (ICAAS) 2025.
The partnership designates STIDC as the co-organiser of this significant event, which will take place at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre here on August 6 and 7.
STIDC general manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah, who also serves as ICAAS co-chairman, said the signing of the collaboration proposal marked a significant milestone in the shared vision of STIDC and UTS to promote sustainable practices and innovation in applied sciences.
“As one of Sarawak’s leading organisations driving the timber industry, STIDC brings a wealth of expertise and industry leadership to ICAAS 2025.
“While the conference covers a broad range of topics under applied sciences, STIDC’s involvement aligns with areas such as engineered wood, forest products, and wood science and technology. These are key areas where we can share our insights and contributions,” he said during a briefing session with representatives from UTS to discuss about ICAAS at STIDC headquarters here.
Zainal Abidin said STIDC’s collaboration with UTS reflected the corporation’s dedication to advancing sustainable development in Sarawak.
He also emphasised that this partnership underscored STIDC’s commitment to fostering sustainability within the timber industry and beyond.
“ICAAS 2025 provides an excellent platform for industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to exchange ideas and explore solutions for global challenges in sustainability,” he added.
ICAAS 2025 is set to welcome researchers, professionals, and policymakers from around the globe to discuss innovative solutions for sustainability challenges.
Zainal Abidin will be among the renowned keynote speakers at the two-day conference. Other speakers include Prof Dr Julie Juliewaty Mohamed from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.
Participants can expect engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and insights into emerging trends in applied sciences.
Meanwhile, UTS representative Dr Abdul Fattah Abdul Razak said the collaboration between STIDC and UTS is poised to elevate ICAAS 2025 as a leading forum for knowledge exchange and innovation in applied sciences.
“By combining academic expertise with industry perspectives, this partnership aims to drive meaningful progress toward sustainable development in Sarawak and beyond,” said Abdul Fattah, who is also ICAAS deputy chairman.
