PENAMPANG (May 27): Ongoing police surveillance resulted in the arrest of a local man for misappropriating subsidised diesel at a petrol station here on Tuesday.
Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton said police personnel spotted the 46-year-old suspect arriving in a lorry and behaving suspiciously while filling up.
“A check revealed the lorry had a modified canvas in the rear that contained about 300 litres of diesel. The fuel and lorry—valued at a total of RM68,645—were seized for further investigation,” he said in a statement.
The case has been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for investigation under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Sammy said police will continue to intensify enforcement operations to combat the diversion of controlled goods in order to safeguard the interests of the country and the well-being of the community.
He encouraged the public with information regarding the diversion of controlled goods to contact the police to facilitate enforcement efforts.
