KUCHING (Dec 29): The staging of large-scale entertainment events in Sarawak is seen as a strategy to drive the state’s tourism sector, said Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts highlighted the potential of events like the Rock in The Jungle (RiTJ) Music Festival 2024 in attracting rock music fans from Peninsular Malaysia and neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and Brunei.
“I see RiTJ growing in the years to come, as there are many rock music enthusiasts not only in Sarawak but also in neighbouring nations.
“This festival serves as a platform for rock music lovers to celebrate their passion for the genre,” he said when met at the event held at the Sarawak Cultural Village in Santubong on Saturday night.
Abdul Karim also emphasised the importance of improving connectivity with neighbouring countries, which could open up more opportunities for collaboration and increase the number of tourists.
“With better connectivity, especially with our own airline next year, events like this will attract more visitors to Sarawak and contribute to the growth of our tourism industry,” he added.

Organised with support from the ministry and Tourism Malaysia, RiTJ 2024 featured an impressive line-up of prominent bands from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, alongside local talent.
The two-day festival, which began Saturday, kicked off with performances by Sweet Charity, XPDC, JS Boy, Criss X, and Jemson, delivering iconic hits that once dominated the airwaves.
Wings, Senseless, Candy, Edane, and BNB Band were scheduled to take to the stage for last night’s festival closing.
