KUCHING (March 25): ITMAX System Bhd’s latest contract win strengthens its foothold in East Malaysia, positioning the company as a strong contender for Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s (DBKK) plan to install 1,500 AI-powered CCTVs by the end of 2025 to enhance security.
The research team at Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (Maybank IB Research) noted that ITMAX, with its proven track record in smart city solutions, has a high chance of securing the tender.
“Having established a strong presence in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Penang, we believe East Malaysia could be the next growth frontier for ITMAX,” it said in a research note.
In January, DBKK Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said the CCTV installation project is currently under discussion with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and is set to commence this year.
Last week, ITMAX announced two additional smart city letters of award (LOAs) in Penang and Johor.
The first, from the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), involves installing and upgrading approximately 450 CCTVs across the district, with a total contract value of RM26.6 million over eight years.
The second, from the Mersing District Council (MDM) in Johor, covers the provision of smart parking services. This marks the company’s seventh smart parking contract in the state.
The MDM contract spans 15 years and includes approximately 5,500 outdoor parking bays.
By the end of FY25, it is expected to have installed or upgraded more than 1,000 CCTVs in Penang, with an additional 1,100 units across the island and mainland slated for upgrades in the near future.
In Johor, the company currently manages 77,389 outdoor parking bays and could secure approximately 60,000 more in Johor Bahru in late 2H25 when the incumbent vendor’s contract expires.
Maybank IB also expects further contract wins for the group later this year, particularly in Johor and potentially in Sabah.
