KUCHING (July 15): The 35th Asean Veteran Basketball Tournament 2026 will welcome 30 teams from Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.
Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will serve as the venue sponsor, with all matches scheduled to take place at the MBKS Sports Village from Aug 11 to 15.
“I would like to congratulate the Hornbills Basketball Club for taking the initiative to organise this international event. Their commitment to promoting basketball and bringing regional sporting communities together is truly commendable.
“We are proud that Kuching will be represented by six teams, showcasing our city’s passion and strength in basketball. This tournament is an annual event hosted on a rotational basis by the basketball associations or clubs of Asean member countries. It is more than just a competition.
“It is a platform that strengthens friendship, promotes sportsmanship and fosters closer ties among the people of Southeast Asia through the universal language of sport,” he said during the press conference at MBKS here on Tuesday.
The tournament is expected to attract about 500 veteran participants.
