KOTA KINABALU (Feb 17): The mining licence corruption issue allegedly relates to the Sabah government must be addressed with the utmost diligence and responsibility to uphold integrity and public trust, said DAP Sabah secretary Vivian Wong Shir Yee.
In this regard, Vivian said Penang DAP deputy chairman Ramkarpal Singh’s statement reaffirms DAP Sabah’s firm stance against any form of corruption and urges for a speedy investigation.
She said it is essential that any conclusions drawn on this matter are based on thorough fact-finding rather than unverified or one-sided allegations.
“We have repeatedly urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to finalize the investigation at the soonest possible so it can go through judiciary process for fact-finding process,” she said in a statement on Monday.
“With the MACC having completed its investigation and submitted its findings to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP), we trust that the DPP will conduct a careful and impartial review before taking any necessary actions in a timely manner,” she said.
Vivian, who is Sandakan member of parliament, added PH Sabah remains committed to good governance and will carefully assess its position within the state government from time to time.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki on Sunday said videos about the alleged mining scandal could not be relied on by its investigations as they had been heavily edited.
He said the videos “lacked credibility”.
On Friday, Ramkarpal contended that the leaked videos, implicating several assemblymen, had revealed enough information for MACC to invoke various measures under the law including the powers of search and seizure.
He took MACC to task for claiming that insufficient information was hampering the probe into the alleged scandal.
