KOTA KINABALU (Aug 28): A total of nine roads will be closed in conjunction with the State-level National Day and Sabah Day 2025 celebrations this Sunday.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said that five of them are at Dataran Bandaraya and the rest are at Padang Merdeka.
“For the State-level National Day and Sabah Day 2025 celebration, roads will begin to be closed from 5.00 am until 1.00 pm.
“Among the routes that will be closed is the Sutera Harbour road route starting from the traffic lights (one lane closed) to Jalan Mentari for the parade contingents.
“Then, Jalan Mentari to Millennium Roundabout, from Millennium Roundabout to traffic light 20, and the Centre Point traffic light route will be completely closed, followed by the Centre Point slip road between Api-Api and Centre Point, which is a priority for the parade’s movement.
“Meanwhile, for the celebration at Padang Merdeka, among the roads that will be closed are Jalan KK Bypass heading towards Bunga Raya Roundabout, Bunga Raya Roundabout to Capital Roundabout, Jalan Istana from Bukit Bendera Junction to Padang Merdeka, and Bandaran Road Junction to Padang Merdeka.
“Road closures in this area start from 4.00 pm until 12.00 midnight,” he said to the media after an interview session with SabahFM at the Integrated Complex of the Ministry of Communication here today.
Kasim also informed that 327 personnel have been deployed for the celebration at Dataran Bandaraya, while 303 personnel have been assigned for the Sabah Day celebration at Padang Merdeka, including assistance from the General Operations Force.
“To ensure smooth traffic flow, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has planned carefully to facilitate this program.
“I advise the public to obtain accurate information regarding these road closures through the proper channels, including from the social media pages of the police contingent headquarters, and to comply with the instructions from the personnel on duty later,” he said.
He also informed that his party is prepared for the possibility of other gatherings being held on that day.
