SIBU (July 13): The RM450,000 fundraising target for five-year-old Chloe Khoo’s lifesaving liver transplant in Taiwan has been achieved in just six days.
Chloe and her family will leave for Taiwan on July 19 and she is scheduled to undergo the transplant at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital on Aug 4.
Her father Khoo Yong Sern said the family never expected the fundraising target to be reached so quickly.
“We truly did not expect to raise the full amount before leaving for Taiwan. We thought we would still need to continue fundraising after arriving there.
“We are truly grateful to everyone who helped us. Over the past few days, we received calls from people across the country, church members and even former primary and secondary school classmates we had lost touch with over the years.
“They showed their care, support and encouragement,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Khoo said Chloe had also received toys and gifts from kindhearted donors, which deeply touched the family.
“I pray for my daughter every day. I hope she stays safe and healthy, and that everything goes well with her surgery in Taiwan,” he said.
He also thanked Chloe’s aunt, who volunteered to become her living liver donor.
“Besides donating part of her liver, she has been praying for us and supporting our family throughout this journey,” he said.
Khoo also expressed his appreciation to his mother, who travelled from Butterworth in Penang to Selangor whenever Chloe’s condition worsened to help care for her granddaughter.
“Although she had not spent much time with Chloe before, she willingly learned how to care for a sick child and gave our family tremendous support.
“Thank you to everyone for standing by us during the hardest time,” he said.
Meanwhile, CCEP Foundation chief executive officer Yvonne Yee described the successful campaign as a “miracle”.
“Raising RM450,000 in just six days is a miracle. It was not the effort of one person, but the result of countless compassionate people coming together,” she said.
She also thanked everyone who shared articles about Chloe’s fundraising, especially supporters in East Malaysia, saying their efforts helped reach more donors.
Yee also commended the CCEP Foundation team for their dedication throughout the campaign.
“Despite working through the weekend, the team carefully processed every donation, responded to donors’ enquiries and messages, and some staff even worked until midnight to ensure the fundraising campaign ran smoothly,” she said.
